Emergency Passport

I need to make an emergency passport I see that there is an option of going down to the passport agancy and doing it there, then there is all the express companies that charge a lot,
is there any difference if i do it myself or not, is there any reason to use a company instead?

I went down to the passport office by myself, simple and straightforward (after the long waits), I had to show proof of travel, and I picked it up the next day.
