@Mouse-potato I did that, bur for some reason it doesn’t start in the frontend, meaning it seemed to start like a service… I’ll try again
Old Programm "Chavruta Lalomed" was running on Windows XP doesn't run anymore on Windows 10

Hi Guys
A Rabbi called me recently to get a new PC (upgraded from Winows XP to brandnew Windows 10 machine).
He had a programm running there which is something like Otzar Hachochma but much simpler. He gave me the installation CD and I tried to install it on the Windows 10 machine. The install Wizard works and even a shortcut to the programm is placed. However the programm doesn’t run. Even with compatibility settings it doesn’t run.
I’ll attach the installation package in a .zip to the post. If someone has a solution I’d really appreciate it (and the Rabbi as well)!

@TechWiz Do you have any ideas?
-
You can try debugging it but it’s a lot of headache and time and no guarantee you will succeed in doing anything
-
@TechWiz Have you looked at the zip file? What is it written in…
-
Tried running with Compatibility mode? (Right-click executable or shortcut > press Propertied and go to the Compatibility tab there > Play around with the settings and try if anything works.)
BTW, it’s “something like Otzar Hachochma” or more something like Toras Emes that you can download free?
-
@Knaper-Yaden I tried all those settings without any success…
-
@Hacker26 I haven’t finished an exhaustive check…
My initial comments.
This seems to be a slimmed down version of Bar Illan which I am very familiar with.
1st thing I noticed was that the data files (FILE00.XXX etc.) don’t seem to get installed. -
@yzahn Is there a up to date version of that? And if yes, how much is it and where or how could I buy it?
-
@Hacker26 This Chavruta Lalomed program is an extremely old version of Bar Ilan Responsa which is not cheap (see https://www.jewishsoftware.com/bar-ilan-responsa-c-1/bar-ilan-responsa-proj)
You haven’t answered what it is in this program that he needs, compared to the completely free Toras Emes program.
